Phase I – “Who am I as a Leader?”
Training Sessions:
Thursday, February 26, 2015 – Sunday, March 1, 2015
Thursday, August 13, 2015 – Sunday, August 16, 2015
Thursday, February 25, 2016 – Sunday, February 28, 2016

The curriculum objectives for the Leadership Training are for participants to have the opportunity:

  • To understand the 5 principles and 10 commitments of leadership
  • To realize individual leadership potential
  • To participate in building a network of leaders within the PHA community
  • To realize the potential and strengths that each individual brings to the network
  • To learn about and practice leadership skills in a safe environment
  • To inspire others to become leaders
  • To encourage participants to take on facilitator and mentoring roles within the community
  • To expand participants awareness of our community

Phase II – “Bored? Get on Board!”

Training Sessions:
Friday, June 19, 2015 – Sunday, June 21, 2015
Friday, September 11, 2015 – Sunday, September 13, 2015

The primary intent of “Bored? Get on Board! Training is board governance and will include presentations and discussions on the:

  • voluntary sector in Canada
  • board governance models
  • board accountability/ responsibilities
  • bylaws/policies/procedures
  • understanding committee structures and purpose

Phase III – Communication Skills

Training Sessions:
Friday, March 27, 2015 – Sunday, March 29, 2015
Friday, July 17, 2015 – Sunday, July 19, 2015
Friday, March 11, 2016 – Sunday, March 13 2016

The Communications Skills Training will explore the following topics through presentations, group work and discussions:

  • Conducting Effective Meetings
  • Active listening
  • Dealing with Difficult Situations
  • Effective Feedback
  • Decision making strategies
  • Public Speaking – the basics
  • Developing Effective Presentations
  • All persons interested in taking the training must complete and submit an application form
